Unidrv Missing .Dll This Time
Installation started again from the point were the network printer needed to be identified. I now had an icon on my desktop for the 1120C "toolbox".No grumbling aboput missing unidrv.dll this time. Even without the printer itself connected, the 1120C automatically got set as the default printer and I had to cancel the setting in order to go back to my old printer.

If there really is a problem, what will it take to make it manifest itself and what's the worst that'll happen? According to System Information my modem is also supposedly missing some drivers (2 out of the 11 it's supposed to have) but that hasn't put it on the Problem Devices list and hasn't prevented it from getting good connections for the 3 years that I've had it - phone lines permitting, anyway.
